Photo of Bud the Shetland Pony and Cubrina

Bud by Cubrina

I ride Bud the Shetland pony. He is 15 years old and his mom is Rosie. Bud is a light brown pony with a star and a snip. Bud’s front legs are all brown but his hind leg has a white sock. He had a high set tail and it is very long as well. There are two unique things about Bud. First, Bud’s mane starts on the right and alternates back and forth. Secondly, his star and snip are separated by a diamond. This is how you can identify him in the pony pen.

I’d like to tell you about Bud’s unique grooming attitude. He is a bit “stubborn”. Bud is all about playing games, especially when it comes to hoof picking. First he’ll keep his foot stuck to the ground. Next he’ll probably throw his leg around (if you let go then Bud has won the game). Bud’s hind legs might be heavy but you’ll get them up. Watch out for his swatting tail. When you brush him, he’ll probably just look at you. Show him what you’re doing. If you walk to his head let him lick your hand. Now bridling Bud is a different story. Tie his rope tight, then put your finger in the corner of his mouth and put the bit in quickly … remember it’s a game to Bud.

Terry has told me some stories about my favorite “clown” pony that really made me laugh. I think Bud truly is the best … I hope you will too.
